Why Plainspoken

We keep things practical, low-pressure, and clearly non-clinical. Here is what makes the work here different from what you might find elsewhere.

Practice, Not Prescription

Sessions are structured around doing, not being told what to do. You work through exercises with other participants, not through a therapist's intake form.

Suitable for Households

The workshops are built for pairs and families, not individuals working through personal histories. Partners attend together; the whole household benefits from shared practice.

Plain Language Throughout

No therapeutic jargon, no marketing copy with promises. What you read in the workbook is what you do in the room. Nothing stretched beyond its use.

Structured, Not Open-Ended

Each session follows a clear sequence. You will know what is coming, what you are practising, and when the session ends. No ambiguity about what the time is for.

Locally Based in JB

Sessions are held in person in Johor Bahru. There is value in meeting in a shared physical space — the context of the room matters to how people listen.

Options for Longer Work

If a single workshop is not enough, the series and the subscription offer ways to build practice over weeks and months without committing to open-ended engagement.

Ready to Begin?

If your household wants to spend a few hours practising something that often gets skipped, we have a place for you. Send us a note or call to find out when the next session runs.

Common Questions

Straightforward answers to what people usually ask before they book.

Is this a form of counselling or therapy? +
No. Plainspoken workshops are practice-based and educational. The facilitator's role is to guide exercises and note patterns the group can discuss — not to provide personal advice, diagnosis, or treatment of any kind. If you are looking for a licensed practitioner, that is a different service.
Who is the Listening Practice Workshop for? +
It is suitable for adults from any household who want to work on the practical skill of listening. Couples, adult siblings, parents and adult children — any pair or small group where the work of listening is something you want to take seriously for a few hours.
Do both people in a household need to attend? +
For the workshop and the series, it is most useful if both people attend, since the exercises involve practising with a partner. For the Year of Conversation Practice subscription, partners may attend the monthly sessions together under a single subscription.
Where are sessions held? +
Sessions take place in person at our studio in Johor Bahru — Unit 5, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor. We do not currently offer remote or online sessions.
What is included in the subscription? +
The Year of Conversation Practice includes twelve monthly practice sessions, four quarterly reading groups, and one annual personal reflection note. It is designed for adults who want sustained, unhurried work over a full year rather than a single concentrated event.
How do I pay? +
Payment details are confirmed when you make your booking. We accept bank transfer and standard digital payment methods common in Malaysia. Full details will be shared when your place is reserved.
