What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are stored in your browser and sent back to the website on your next visit. Cookies do not run code and cannot access files stored elsewhere on your device.

Websites use cookies to keep things working — for example, to remember that you have already seen the cookie notice, or to understand in a general way how many people are visiting which pages. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the site to function; others are optional and only placed with your agreement.

This page explains which cookies Plainspoken uses, what they do, and how you can manage them.

Cookies we use

Essential cookies

Always active

Required

These cookies are needed for the website to work. Without them, basic functions like the cookie consent notice and navigation cannot operate. They do not collect personal data for marketing or analytics purposes.

Examples
  • cookieConsent — stores your cookie preference so the notice does not appear on every visit (localStorage)
  • Session identifiers — maintained only while the browser is open

Analytics cookies

Optional

Optional

These cookies help us understand how visitors use the site — which pages are visited most, how long people spend reading, and where visitors come from. The information is aggregated and does not identify individuals.

Examples
  • Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) — anonymous page view and session tracking; expires in 2 years (_ga) or 24 hours (_gid)

Marketing cookies

Optional

Optional

Marketing cookies are used to understand whether advertising campaigns are reaching the right audience and to measure the general effectiveness of campaign spending. They may be set by third-party advertising services.

Examples
  • Facebook Pixel (_fbp) — advertising measurement; expires in 3 months
  • Google Ads conversion tracking — campaign measurement only

Preference cookies

Optional

Optional

Preference cookies remember choices you make — for example, your language or region settings — so you do not need to set them again each time you visit. They do not track browsing across other websites.

Examples
  • Language or region preferences — stored in localStorage, no expiry unless cleared

How long cookies last

Session cookies are deleted automatically when you close your browser. They are used for temporary functions and store no long-term data.

Persistent cookies remain on your device after the browser is closed, until either you delete them or they reach their expiration date. The durations for each cookie used on this site are listed in the descriptions above.

LocalStorage entries (such as your cookie consent record) do not expire automatically. They remain until you clear them through your browser settings or through the preference controls below.

Your cookie preferences

Your current preferences are shown below. Essential cookies cannot be turned off.
